Green Town, Illinois:

Judgment runs fast
Judgment comes flying
Judgment catches up
And they don’t make Cream-Sponge Para Litefoot Tennis Shoes anymore...
even in China

Fate lies in... now, not waiting
Years pass that tow-head boy
And scythes kiss the fields of Illinois

Welcome Jack!

I like good poems, and that's a good poem.

"Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight" is one of my favourite lyrics ever. Bruce Cockburn - definitely in my "top 5 songwriters" list.

Pome is a good word (smiley face).

"Peduncle" is also a good word.

Thank you, Doug.

If you like Bruce Cockburn, you should try out two of my other favorites, John Gorka and Todd Snider.

Gorka is responsible for perhaps the most descriptive lyric of all time:

"He was born with a red hand in the cookie jar and a foot in Potter's Field."

This "Pome" (see John Prine), is part of a three part on Judgment, but the only one that references Ray.

I like Ray. Others I like are Roger Zelazny and Jack Vance.

Thanks again.

...see John Prine...

You've further impressed me - although I can't claim much familiarity with Gorka, I can say that Snider, and especially Prine, are two favourites. I told John when I met him after his performance recently in Santa Barbara as he signed my Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings album, "you're a better songwriter than Dylan." He said "thank you."

And his lyrics!:

"The wind was blowing, especially thru her hair."

"Many years later we found ourselves in Canada, trying to save our marriage, or perhaps catch a few fish. Whichever came first."

"You know what blood looks like in black and white don't you? Shadows!"

Now them is some great lyrics! Do you know what you are Mr Prine? You're a poet!

He can tug at the heartstrings.

And he rocks too!

Also saw Todd Snider at the Soiled Dove in Denver, saw John and Todd together, and saw John with the great, Infamous Angel herself, Iris DeMent.

I love me some good music!

HOMELESS

SHALL WE SEND THE HOMELESS HOME
OR SHOULD WE TIE THEM TO THE TABLES
SHALL WE LEAVE THEM ALL ALONE
JUST IN CASE THEIR LEFT UNABLE

SHOULD WE KEEP THEM IN THE DARK
RIGHT BESIDE OUR DIRTY LAUNDRY
HIDE THEM FROM THE BIRTHDAY SPARK
KEEP THEM COLD ENOUGH AND LONELY

AND I’D LIKE TO TELL YOU ALL
WHAT I KNOW
AND I’D LIKE TO SHOW YOU ALL
WHAT I KNOW

SHOULD WE LEAVE THEM TO THEMSELVES
TO JUSTIFY WHATS WRONG WITHIN US
TO HEAR THEM CALLING OUT FOR HELP
THE LONELY HEARTS, THE SAINTS, THE SINNERS

I’D LIKE TO TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE
FAR AWAY TO NEON WATERS
WHERE ALL THE LONELY PEOPLE HIDE
YOUR FATHERS SONS, YOUR MOTHERS DAUGHTERS

AND I’D LIKE TO TELL YOU ALL
WHAT I KNOW
AND I’D LIKE TO SHOW YOU ALL
WHAT I KNOW

EVERYTHINGS SO NEW TO YOU
NO ONE HAS A CLUE FOR YOU
AND EVERYTHING YOU DO HAS BEEN DONE
BEFORE YOUR TIME

AM I JUST A SINNER
AM I JUST A CLOWN
OR AM I JUST SO TIRED OF FALLING DOWN

WHERE WILL WE GO, WHAT WILL WE DO
WHAT COULD I SAY BUT YOU WONT HEAR ME
MAYBE IT’S JUST BECAUSE THEIR NUMB
MAYBE IT’S JUST BECAUSE THEY FEAR ME

I’D LIKE TO TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE
FAR AWAY TO NEON WATERS
WHERE ALL THE LONELY PEOPLE HIDE
YOUR FATHERS SONS, YOUR MOTHERS DAUGHTERS

AND I’D LIKE TO TELL YOU ALL
WHAT I KNOW
AND I’D LIKE TO SHOW YOU ALL
WHAT I KNOW…

Ouch, my eyes! You want to watch them all-caps there, Matt!

You wrote this poem/song, eh? It's good.

Yes, it was a song that my band did years ago. Sorry about the caps, I had it in my documents like this and just cut and pasted...

Yeah, I had something like that once when I copied and pasted.

I think there's a tool to auto-change it somewhere in your word-processing toolbar.

As for "pome," "rime" is a pretty good word in its own right!

And the Para Lightfoots are only made with small town Americans in mind, http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/463806/the_pai...ning_shoes_that.html
