| The following is not a new book, but I thought I would mention it because, given its limited edition, many may well be unaware of it. It is a chapbook called READ MY PAGES, published by The National Endowment for the Arts in 2008, and printed by Aralia Press. It consists of a brief forward that Ray Bradbury wrote in 2007 for an Egyptian edition of FAHRENHEIT 451. It is a very thin volume, consisting of a title page, with the copyright noted on the reverse (yes, this was an authorized publication), a dedication page ("For my Egyptian readers"), Ray's introduction, which is approximately a page and one-half long, and the limitation page. The book was limited to fifteen signed copies, and one hundred ten unsigned copies. (There was also a deluxe edition of six, signed and bound in leather and paper boards). There are still unsigned copies available from a bookstore called Oak Knoll Books, and copies might also be found on the Advanced Book Exchange and eBay. The book is not cheap (especially given its skimpy length), but it is beautifully printed on high quality paper, and is excellent example of the bookmaker's art: https://www.oakknoll.com/advSe...om2&recordsLength=25 |

| While not authored by Ray Bradbury, this book may be of interest to his fans and readers. It came out in 2023, and has been one of the most acclaimed non-fiction books of the year. It is A CITY ON MARS: CAN WE SETTLE SPACE, SHOULD WE SETTLE SPACE, AND HAVE WE REALLY THOUGHT THIS THROUGH? by Kelly and Zach Weinersmith. I think we all know what Ray's answers to those questions would be. https://www.amazon.com/City-Ma...d_i=1984881728&psc=1 |

| This is just a reminder that Ray Bradbury's first book, DARK CARNIVAL, is scheduled to be re-issued in paperback in the U.K. on March 14, 2024. I have heard nothing about a U.S. release. The book can be ordered from Amazon's U.K. website: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-...ipbooks%2C216&sr=1-1 |

| I just received word from McFarland Books that my copy of THE FIRST GEEKS: RAY BRADBURY, FORREST J ACKERMAN, RAY HARRYHAUSEN AND THE FOUNDING OF SCIENCE FICTION FANDOM, by Orty Ortwein, has finally shipped. The book, which was mentioned in a posting above, was announced last year, but its publication was delayed. | I read in the June, 2024 issue of Locus Magazine, under the section "Forthcoming Books", that Subterranean Press has scheduled a limited edition, hardcover release of Ray Bradbury's DARK CARNIVAL for October of 2024. I checked the Subterranean Press website and, as of now, there is no mention of the book. If and when I hear anything more, I will try to post it.
This comes on the heels of the release, in a relatively inexpensive trade paperback version, of DARK CARNIVAL in the U.K. I can't help but wonder what Ray would think. He had said that after the Gauntlet Press re-issue, there would be no more re-printings of DARK CARNIVAL. However, at least personally, I'm very happy to see this classic collection made more easily available to a wider audience. |
