Forgive the ignorance but does anyone have a full reference for where the Bradbury quote 'Living at risk is jumping off the cliff and building your wings on the way down' is from?

All I can say is Ray happens on a metaphor he likes, that works for him, and then repeats it. You'll find variations of the same quote more than once. Can't help you on a source for this one.

It's from Ray's introduction to: "The Stories of Ray Bradbury" (Knopf, 1980).

"That is the kind of life I've had. Drunk, and in charge of a bicycle, as an Irish police report once put it. Drunk with life, that is, and not knowing where off to next. But you're on your way before dawn. And the trip? Exactly one half terror, exactly one half exhilaration."
