But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.
-Peter

A day with the Lord is like a thousand years. And a thousand years with the Lord is liken to a day.

That was a bit of dry humour. Perhaps too dry, I see.

"Why should we all use our creative power and write or paint or play music, or whatever it tells us to do?

Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, lively, bold and compassionate, so indifferent to fighting and the accumulation of objects and money. Because the best way to know the Truth or Beauty is to try to express it. And what is the purpose of existence Here or Yonder but to discover truth and beauty and express it, i.e., share it with others?"

Mankind have a great aversion to intellectual labor; but even supposing knowledge to be easily attainable, more people would be content to be ignorant than would take even a little trouble to acquire it.
- Samuel Johnson

Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

The Charles Beaumont clip libRArY recently posted

http://www.youtube.com/user/Ro...ta#p/a/1/T0ezeb32CcA

got me thinking about THE TWILIGHT ZONE magazines from the '80s. The June '89 issue had a special tribute to Charles Beaumont. The issue included "Carnival" by Beaumont, a tribute short story by George Clayton Johnson "Your Three Minutes Are Up" and an excellent article by Roger Anker.

The article has this quote by Charles Beaumont:
Writing as Therapy

"I'm very cynical. I don't believe in Extra Sensory Perception or poltergeists or flying saucers. I don't believe in ghosts either. What I do believe in is the capacity of the human mind to create objects of fear--what is more frightening, for instance, than Frankenstein's monster? What we fantasy writers do is create substitutes for belief.
"All the fantasy writers I know have a way of dwelling on their own fears and phobias. A writer spends his life being his own psychiatrist."
