For Halloween of 2024 I watched The Halloween Tree for the first time since it aired in October 1993. I watched it again in 2025.

This is one of the relatively rare adaptations of Ray Bradbury's work which are true both to the story and the spirit of the original book. Some aspects are even better, for instance, in the book all the trick-or-treaters are boys while in the cartoon the trick-or-treater dressed as a witch is a girl. This is both more likely to what would happen in real life and helps girls relate to the story, and the character of Jenny is spirited and well portrayed.

The entire film is just a pure delight. It is available on streaming to rent or buy and I unreservedly recommend it for all ages.
