OK, on a serious note there were tears of joy, laughter and jubilation in the hall of 800 people at the Pasadena Hilton, a few miles from JPL's mission control. It was the culmination of a daylong event starting with the showing of JFK’s May 25, 1961 speech…FORTY-SEVEN years ago to the day. Highlights of the DVD that landed with the craft were shown, which included a digital copy of Martian Chronicles. There was a poignant tribute to Arthur C. Clarke and a reading from Sands of Mars. One Mr. Ray Douglas Bradbury gave a very inspiring talk. After which, a reading from Martian Chronicles was done by one of the participants. I left just as Bill Nye the Science Guy was ascending to the podium. The first real images from Phoenix should start coming in around 6:30 p.m. PST. The previously posted image of Marvin was actually sent to Mars on the rover. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

It's probably all an illusion. Those Martians have the power to make us see Mars as anything they want (Ohio, Heaven, etc)... - Phil Deputy Moderator | Visit my Bradbury website: www.bradburymedia.co.uk | Listen to my Bradbury 100 podcast: https://tinyurl.com/bradbury100pod
