"You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you." (Guess Who?)

Also, I like Montaigne's "Je suis moy-mesmes la matière de mon livre."*

A short explanation:
I collect writing quotes because I write; I use them to inspire me. The top one got me through the final edit of a project.

* "I am, myself, the content of my book" (I take it as the purest definition of the advice: Write What You Know).

A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.

Indeed - I also love his theological quotes, as well:

As the poet said, 'Only God can make a tree' - probably because it's so hard to figure out how to get the bark on.

How can I believe in God when just last week I got my tongue caught in the roller of an electric typewriter?

The crowd is composed of individuals, but it must also be in the power of each one to be what he is: an individual; and no one, no one at all, no one whatsoever, is prevented from being an individual unless he prevents himself--by becoming one of the masses.

Kierkegaard
