Looking for the short story in Reader's Digest about Grandma dying and children are visiting her and she tells them to remember the grandma up on the roof repairing it and her fingernails and hair are dead, she isn't there but in the memories of her.

"Leave Taking", Reader's Digest, July 1983! A classic ss from Dandelion Wine tales. (Ironically, I am fortunate to have a copy of this story from RD edition in my files. Illustration at the outset actually shows Grandma on the roof, hammer in hand, doing some repairs.)

It also appears in The Stories of Ray Bradbury (1980).

You nailed it, even if I was way off on date. Thank you. Now I'll try and find a copy
