I think Mr Bradbury's description of Pip is perhaps the most incredible description of a boy there ever was!

With the possible exception of his description of John Huff in "The Halloween Tree."

Not trying to be deliberately obtuse, but was John Huff in The Halloween Tree? Wasn't he Douglas' friend in Dandelion Wine?

"Joe Pipkin was the greatest boy who had ever lived." My mistake he is referred to as Pipkin. I think I shortened it to Pip. This is one of my favorite things about Ray. I'll be reading along, and all of a sudden there is this amazing phrase, sentence or paragraph that is so well-written and so descriptive I just marvel at it and read it over and over. I also read it out loud, because it often has a musical quality. And in the past year I have begun bringing these phrases in to my classes (seventh grade lit/language) and reading them to the kids so they can hear examples of outstanding descriptive writing. I once did almost half a period on just his short story openings, trying to teach them how to improve their story openings.

Ha, ha, yes, I did that just to see if you all were paying attention.
