I read a story a long time ago about a boy and his grandmother. The grandmother takes him up on the roof of the house to clean the gutters and tells the boy to never let anyone else do this job because it is so wonderful.
I can't find the title. Anyone? How about the book it is in?

Sounds like a scene from "Dandelion Wine".

This story also appeared in the "Reader's Digest," I believe under the title "Good-bye, Grandma," and was based on an actual incident with Ray's own great-grandmother.
