A great new interview with Ray appears in the current (July/September, 2009) issue of THE STRAND MAGAZINE. This magazine has also published several new short stories by Ray over the past several years. For those who cannot find a copy of THE STRAND at their local newsstand or bookstore, here is a link to the magazine's website: http://www.strandmag.com/index.htm Alos, the July/August, 2009 issue of the SATURDAY EVENING POST will include a poem by Ray (the POST's website refers to it as a "poetic tribute to America". Since I have not yet seen this issue, I am uncertain whether this will be a re-printing of Ray's poem "America" or a new poem). Borders and Barnes & Noble carry these publications in So. California. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

Thank you Richard and jkt! I called the local booksamillion. They have the current issue of The Strand, but not the Saturday Evening Post yet. We do have a Barnes & Noble, but I frequent the booksamillion because of a lifetime membership. Just got back, by the way, and Mr. Bradbury is as exuberant as ever in the interwiew!

The July/August issue of the SEP is supposed to be their new "reimaged" magazine so it could be that they are delayed in distribution. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

One aspect of the interview in THE STRAND that I especially enjoyed was the fact the interviewer asked Ray about his admiration for the writing of John Collier, something I had not seen in many prior interviews. For a more detailed discussion by Ray of his respect for John Collier and Collier's influence on Ray's writing, I highly recommend the introduction Ray wrote for for the New York Review Books' re-issue of John Collier's classic short story collection, FANCIES AND GOODNIGHTS. The introduction includes Ray's very funny recounting of his one and only in-person meeting with Collier: http://www.nybooks.com/shop/product?product_id=968

If one decided to read Fancies and Goodnights and is old enough to remember Alfred Hitchcock Presents they'll recognize many of the stories. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

His stories very much remind me of the adult short stories of Dahl. "Live Forever!"

Almost forgot, the Saturday Evening Post that Richard alerted the group to is now at Borders, at least it was on Monday (my bad for not posting earlier) here in the Los Angeles area. It is a nice one-page poem, America, with Ray getting a mention on the cover. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

This thing with Saturday Evening Post has been a bug in my shirt collar for a long while. SatEvePost ran the finest Bradbury stories for years in 1950's, 60's, with magnificent illustrations. I asked Ray in the 80's why no stories were being published in the Post. I never got a clear answer. I even queried editor Dr. SerVaas on several occasions, and got nothing particularly pertinent to why no Bradbury stories were being published. Bradbury and the Post seemed a fine fit for many years, Tho it is no longer the same Post of years back, (tho there is a new re-design) glad to see Ray's name on the cover again. Just like old times.
