I absolutely love the work Mugnaini has done for Ray Bradbury's books over the years. His illustrations are so haunting, intricate, vivid and surreal, yet they are somehow subtle and restrained as well. He is able to capture Ray's imagery and the 'spirit' of each story beautifully. The creative collaboration between Bradbury and Mugnaini stands alongside (I think) other great author-artist partnerships like Charles Dickens/Halbot Browne (Phiz), and Ted Hughes/Leonard Baskin. Here is a list of RB books that I have with a Mugnaini contribution: - THE OCTOBER COUNTRY (full page line drawings for individual stories) - THE GOLDEN APPLES OF THE SUN (quarter-page drawings for each story) - SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, British hardcover (colour painting for dustjacket) - THE HALLOWEEN TREE (illustrations throughout) - TWICE 22 (colour painting for dustjacket, two line drawings featuring various elements/images from numerous stories) - FAHRENHEIT 451, 1982 limited edition signed by both RB and JM (extraordinary fold-out colour illustrations) * Does anyone know of other books with Mugnaini contributions? * Also, would anyone know where I might be able to buy prints of his work? I'd love to hear other RB readers' thoughts on this amazing artist. | |||
