I'm looking for a particular Horror LP... Please help...

Hello!

I am a fan of Ray Bradbury's work, and enjoy the Ray Bradbury shows on T.V. whenever I'm able to see them. But my post isn't directly related to Ray... it IS related to short horror stories, though...

I am looking for a particular record (33 1/3 rpm LP). The record in question was produced (I Believe) in the 1970s. The title (if I remember it correctly) is "The Nightwatch"... it contains some of the best dramatized horror stories that I have heard in my life. I bought the record as a teenager (and later lost it), but the stories are told in a very non-teen manner. The record cover has a life-like Human skull on the front with an eyeball in one of the sockets and a black background. On the back of the record cover is (I believe) a brief description of the album, a little info about the narrator (which I think is British, English, or Australian in nationality), and the missing eyeball.

I can't remember all of the stories, but one of them is a vivid version of an Urban Legend... the one about a newlywed couple that stalls their car in the black forests of Germany and the husband goes for help. while the wife waits in the car she is terrorized by a psycho ward escapee that thumps something on the roof of her car. When the police show up and tell her to run from her car and NOT look back she looks and discovers to her horror that her dead husbands decapitated head is what was thumping on the roof of the car... Thump... THUMP!

Another story has to do with a voodoo doll; and yet another story is about two little girls (I believe they're twins) get trapped in a steamer-type trunk in the attic of an old home and die... only to have the trunk discovered years later by the new home owners.

Another story is about a student chef that becomes famous thanks to his trusty knife... but the knife finally turns on the chef because it doesn't get any of the glory... the sound effects used in the "butchering" of the chef are enough to make the listener feel the blade stabbing, slashing, and gouging into them...

Yet another story tells about a delussional man named Lenny that sees strange things on a regular basis (like apes in elevators, etc.). His therapist convinces him to ignore the "visions" and overcome his fear... and the day he decides to follow his therapist's advise a giant hole opens up in front of his car due to a flaming gas pocket under the road and he ignores it, driving into it..... The narrator describes Lenny's final moments as follows: ...the car, Lenny, and his hallusinating head, became sort of a sticky.. bubbling goo (with sound effects that perfectly match).... FARE WELL! The narrator always ended his stories by saying, "Fare Well". I quote the record from a memory of 20 years ago...

If anyone can help me find this album I'd be very appreciative. Thanks for taking the time to read this...

Sincerely,

Dalevis

These people know EVERYTHING about folk music. Although your record is spoken language, they know so much regarding recordings that if they can't supply the answer themselves, they may know who to ask: http://www.mudcat.org/threads.cfm

These people trade in vinyl records and may also help: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=rec.music.marketplace.vinyl

In case the stories were ever in print, try here, http://forums.abebooks.com/abesleuthcom and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE put some distinctive wording in the message line, not just "Looking for a record album."

I thought, "I'm looking for a particular HORROR LP... Please help..." would be good enough to get someone's attention. I have been looking for this album for a long time so mentioning the possible title right off the bat doesn't seem to draw enough curiosity. If I would have said, "Want Nightwatch LP", readers might have overlooked it thinking that it was a different album than what was originally implied. there are apparently several albums called "Nightwatch" which have little or nothing to do with Horror Stories. I appreciate the leads posted... I will definately follow up on 'em. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Dalevis
