Comic Con: 3:00-4:00 Spotlight on Ray Bradbury— He was at the very first Comic-Con and we kind of think he'll be at the very last one, too, far off in the future. Science fiction author Ray Bradbury is literally a national treasure. Ray talks with biographer Sam Weller and moderator writer/producer Arnold Kunert in his yearly visit with his fans at Comic-Con. Unfortunately Ray won't be coming on Saturday to Dark Del's for the Chrysalis signing but he is going to pre-sign some posters for the event so those who purchase the film can still get his autograph. The entire cast will be there as well as the director, the composer and the Creature Effects Maestro Lee Romaire. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... How's he doing? "Yes, yes. What a lovely insanity."

We spent 21 hours door-to-door for Comic Con. How many people half his age could do that? John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

He's a miracle, but you knew that. Anything coming up at the Fremont Centre? "Yes, yes. What a lovely insanity."

There may be something in the fall or at xmas. Things are very fluid right now. There is a big production being talked about in 2011 that I cannot talk about at this time. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

At this time, Ray is not scheduled to attend but this may be of interest to those of you who live here in La La Land. The South Pasadena Public Library and the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, with funding support from the Helix Foundation, will honor Ray Bradbury with a 90th Birthday Celebration on Thursday, August 19 at 8:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room. The free event will feature a showing of Walt Disney Pictures’ adaptation of Something Wicked This Way Comes, a 1983 PG-13 rated film starring Jason Robards and Diane Ladd. The event will open with the presentation of a Proclamation to Mr. Bradbury from Mayor Richard D. Schneider M.D. declaring August 22, his 90th Birthday as “Ray Bradbury Day in South Pasadena.” Ray will also be honored by the offices of Congressman Adam Schiff, Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, Senator Gilbert Cedillo, and Supervisor Michael Antonovich. The Something Wicked screenplay was written by Ray Bradbury and adapted from his iconic novel of the same name. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films gave the film two Saturn Awards in 1984 for Best Fantasy Film as well as Best Screenplay. The 95 minute film is considered one of Disney’s darkest and may not be appropriate for small children. According to Mary Menzel, Director of the California Center for the Book, “Something Wicked is a wonderful film to show in honor of Ray Bradbury’s birthday, because it is one of the truest and most successful literary adaptations in movie history.” As Roger Ebert noted when the film came out, “it captures the novel’s mood, tone, and style in a really exceptional way.” The Community Room is located at 1115 El Centro Street. Free parking will be available across the street in the Superintendent of Schools parking lot. No tickets or reservations are necessary. To augment the 150 seat capacity in the Community Room, a giant screen to show the proceedings and the film will also be set up in the Library Park. A custom birthday cake designed by Fantasy Frostings will be served as part of the refreshments. Special thanks to Fantasy Frostings, SOSOUND Entertainment, and South Pasadena Unified School District John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... Hello, I would like to know if Ray will be attending Vroman's for Halloween or if he will be doing any signings in the Month of October or the near future, in the Los Angeles/Orange County Areas?
|
I am not sure if that have been confirmed, yet. Being that Halloween is a Sunday this year that may effect things. Ray will be at the Pomona Library on October 8th. John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley

Friday Reminder: http://www.ci.pomona.ca.us/cit.../library/bigread.php Only Ray is worth driving East on the 10 freeway on a Friday during rush hour. (locals will know of which I speak.) John King Tarpinian You know what you are, Mr. Bradbury? ... You are a poet! -- Aldous Huxley
