As would be said on some message boards, "Zombie Thread!" Bumping up an old one, but this belongs here. I have been watching The Ray Bradbury Theater and found another actual resemblance between a Bradbury story and an episode of The Twilight Zone, this one actually written by Rod Serling. The Bradbury story is "The Long Years," which first appeared in Maclean’s, September 15, 1948, (with incorrect byline "Roy Bradbury") obviously before The Twilight Zone premiered in 1959. It then appeared in The Martian Chronicles. The Twilight Zone episode is "The Lonely," which was among the first ten. Similarities are a man living on a distant planet/asteroid becomes very attached to an android or androids. After a long exile from Earth, he is then offered rescue, but the rescuers can't take the android(s). Differences are his location, how he got there, number and nature of the androids, and the endings. I would say easily as many similarities as between "The Silent Towns" and "Where is Everybody?" and maybe more, although in both cases the stories just have the same premise while the events and conclusions are entirely different. I went to post this on The Twilight Zone message board and noted that "The Lonely" was already mentioned but posted the above anyway. This message has been edited. Last edited by: dandelion, | ||||
