I am in the middle of reading 'The Illustrated Man', and I honestly do not understand 'Kaleidoscope' at all. It is the second story on the man's body, right after The Veldt. Can someone please help me? Perhaps summarize it a bit?

Answer a few questions and you may find your own answer: What is a Kaleidoscope? What has happened to the men in the story? What are they each talking about after the accident? Finally, what image would you get if you were to put this story on the big screen, settle back into your soft movie chair, and watch the events in which the characters are depicted?

Got it?!

Frank, what an interesting concept. It brings to mind a Kaleidoscope that I have (although it is still in Minnesota) that has a clear lens without the tumbling bits of cut glass. The images in the mirrors are of what you are looking at and creates some rather bizarre effects, especially when you are looking at someones face from about three inches.

YES! We celebrate the 13th here by calling together old friends and fond memories and links of the day.
