The 1998 TV movie The Harryhausen Chronicles, narrated by Leonard Nimoy, documents the life and work of pioneering special effects artist Ray Harryhausen. It is remarkable in featuring short films he made as a student while learning stop motion. Harryhausen stated that stop motion has a dreamlike quality which draws viewers into a story. Ray Harryhausen became best friends with author Ray Bradbury right after high school graduation in 1938. They were both inspired by the 1933 film King Kong. They vowed to always remain friends and always love dinosaurs. Clips from many of Harryhausen’s films appear. The animated skeletons were his trademark and are the best. He has a good screen presence and seems like he was a great guy and very nice. I highly recommend this as informative and entertaining. | |||
