Hello, after recent thought and discussion and contenplation, I wondered about the story, There Will Come Soft Rains. I must say, I am quite confused. In the story, the dog returns to the house after the holocaust. My question is how did the dog live through all of the effects of the holocaust? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Kindly, RayFan22

I think we're supposed to see that the destruction is arbitrary, that little pockets here and there could survive for unknown reasons. But remember, the dog had sores (radiation poisoning, I presume) and began frothing at the mouth. He died a short while later. So the initial wave didn't kill him, but the radiation eventually did. Destruction complete.

Yes, this is a very good explanation. It just seems like it goes a little deaper. Guess I was wrong. Thanks for the help Imskipper! ~RayFan22 [This message has been edited by RayFan22 (edited 01-18-2005).]
