When a place of significant national and even international importance can be leveled for development, I ask one question: what structures should be spared the wrecking ball?

ANSWER: Bring on the nuclear bombs! EVERYWHERE. JUST LEVEL EVERY HUMAN STRUCTURE ON THE PLANET. The pyramids aren't what they once were, anyway! In fact, they look downright ratty! By all means, replace them with some aluminum and glass monstrosity! I am ashamed of the English-speaking world that this made news in Germany and Russia and was not mentioned except locally in the U. K. or USA. (If this did appear in any other English-speaking countries, apologies to them.) I have notified the news agencies--asking if they were aware of this and giving them a chance to report on it!

Here are two more articles:

http://www.latimes.com/la-me-b...16-photogallery.html

I am severely disappointed in Jon Eller!

http://blogs.kcrw.com/dna/ray-...radburys-former-home

Ray would NOT approve of this! Look at the story "To the Chicago Abyss" (to name ONE!) and consider that it was Ray who had the plaque placed at the site of the Laurel and Hardy steps! To say Ray would be okay with this simply because he did not take serious steps to prevent it is to say that because I don't specifically tell everyone I meet NOT to shoot me, it is fine for anyone to shoot me...because I did not specifically say not to! If nothing more, Ray would be dismayed at the outbreak of grief this has caused among his fans worldwide! FOR SHAME on all who participated in this catastrophe and all who approved of it!

A great interview with Bradbury biographer Sam Weller about the house demolition on our blog. Really intelligent, passionate and sensitive:

As I said, the obvious outcome of the attitude assumed here is to just nuke everything manmade and let it all go back to nature! If it was old, well, so are the pyramids. If it was an eyesore, well, look at the sphinx. By all means blow 'em all to hell and erect some aluminum and glass monstrosities in their places that will mean the same to some people and which some will even like better! And never mind the miles and miles of desert without structures--just demolish what others have built! Such an obvious ego trip by a narcissistic lying bastard on a level with the vandals of the Taliban!

To paraphrase Granger at the end of Fahrenheit 451 man is a phoenix that knows the stupid things he does.
When things like this happen, the best tool is to remember and help each other remember.

To help us remember. You know how Google Maps updates their satellite imagery every so often? Go to 10265 Cheviot Drive and capture one of what's no longer there before they replace it with what soon will be there. Live Forever!

Thanks for thinking of this, Doug Spaulding! Here they are. (Next four pictures from Google Maps. The first one seems to have been taken April 23, 2014, and if the others had dates I didn't see them--perhaps all taken at the same time.)

Overview of PART of the Cheviot Hills area showing the HUGE NUMBER of lots certain narcissistic jerks could choose to purchase for building their architectural nightmares. Red teardrop indicates location of the ONLY RESIDENCE of a nationally, internationally and interplanetarily famous author--the ONE PLACE where an ASSASSIN OF HISTORY chose to have his egotistical little hissy-fit! Coincidence? I think NOT!

Same area, zooming closer to the house.

Similar view, a little closer.

Aerial view showing residences next door and across the street supposedly SO MUCH BETTER that this one simply had to go!

Posting this as many places as possible. We must do our duty!

News of the destruction of the Cheviot Hills area Los Angeles home in which internationally famous author Ray Bradbury lived and worked for over 50 years has appeared in Russia and Germany, but in the U. S. seems to have been covered only in local newspaper articles! Below are links to the contact forms to submit stories to the major television news agencies in the U. S. and U. K. As many people as possible should inform them of the story and resulting fallout! Thanks for your participation!

KCRW has now aired their DnA architecture show which includes interviews with Thom Mayne,Jon Eller and others. It's online in full. Link below.

The most interesting bit is not Mayne, nor Jon. It the little interview with the guy from LA who has a watching brief for significant buildings. That one interview really tells you how we got to this point.
