Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury Chapter One "The Hearth and the Salamander" Page 1: "It was a pleasure to burn." http://www.blunderbussmag.com/...4/03/BurningBook.jpg We have come to this . . . permission to read the truth! _______________________________ My desk edition of F451 is signed by Mr. Bradbury, Mr. William Nolan, and Mr. Michael Pritchard, all on 8/22/09, at Glendale's M&I Bookstore, which is now sadly closing. It was carried cross-country, filled with side notes to remind me of the countless metaphors, allusions, and references to people-history-philosophy!! Each detail to be discussed with students in my classes. It also has a prayer card, well-worn from many years of handling, in memory of one "Andrew Faber (5/8/62)". Although I knew not Mr. Faber, I recall finding the card in a book purchased at a sale in a small Adirondack Mt. town. It seemed the proper place within this F451 to continue to be remembered - as I did today - whenever this treasured text is glanced through from time to time. "It was always a pleasure to teach!" f

I suppose I should post this in "Miscellany" I have been remiss in keeping in touch with Butch and my other Bradbury pals since I got into Facebook. As I said to Dandelion a moment ago, this board (even the OLD board before this) WAS my "social media" for years! Anyway, here (from a local paper) is what I'm up to lately, along with playing other venues, singing with the Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus, and some unpleasant things as well. More anon, I promise. http://goodtimes.sc/santa-cruz...-shubert-alley-cats/

Bob Dylan's Nobel Prize lecture has been made available online, and it features quite a lot of talk (it's mostly just a summary, as far as I can tell) about Moby Dick: http://www.nobelprize.org/nobe...6/dylan-lecture.html

Hello!! Just wanted to let you wonderful folk know that audible.com has made available for download several of the RECORDED BOOKS releases of Ray Bradbury books. Previously, only libraries could get these. Titles include: as performed by Andrew Garman: Death is A Lonely Business, A Graveyard for Lunatics, and Let's All Kill Constance. As performed by MacLeod Andrews, The Golden Apples of the Sun and Other Stories, and Green Shadows, White Whale. Finally, as performed by Jim Frangione, Zen in the Art of Writing. I have not downloaded any as yet, but will get started later this month. Working too much, hope to contribute more in near future. Be well all!!
