I must admit, I had never heard the following before. According to the IMDb website link below, Ray Bradbury turned down an offer to write the screenplay for the film THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, which was based on Nelson Algren's novel. The film starred Frank Sinatra and Kim Novak, and was directed by Otto Preminger. The site also claims that Ray turned down an offer to write the screenplay for a subsequent Preminger film, the fine ANATOMY OF A MURDER. Ray is quoted as saying about the MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM offer, "I don't give a goddamn about drugs; it bores the hell out of me. I don't understand the people who take them. So why would I write a screenplay? I'd get a writer's block immediately." https://m.imdb.com/title/tt004...via/?ref_=tt_trv_trv | |||
