All,

Ok, if there are what? over 1000 BRadbury stories? Why are there only 2 large (100ish) story collections? How many had been published in collections and how may have not?

It seems so wrong that so many stories are uncollected.

Well, you can start with this list https://raybradburyboard.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/37910839...011063372#2011063372 which is not updated to the last collection or two, and do the math.

At one time I figured 90% available. There was always a group of early works impossible to get, plus more recent ones in obscure publications. That number has gone, with several recent collections, to more like 95% available, though there are enough uncollected to still fill several collections.

It seems to me that the number of uncollected stories relate to the fact that they are ones that Ray, himself, did not deem worthy of publication.

Heavenly only knows that Donn Albright has scoured his LA home also his home in Palm Springs for anything that might be publishable.

...and the most recent collection (Cat's Pajamas) was more open in declaring the original dates of the stories, revealing that this scouring had been going on.

We also have to bear in mind that RB sometimes holds material back until it is "ready" - hence the long wait for From the Dust Returned, Farewell Summer, Leviathan 99, Somewhere a Band is Playing, and the supposed sequel to F451. And sometimes an uncollected short story turns up as a chapter in a novel!

About 50 RB stories have not been collected anywhere after their initial publication in periodicals. Most of those are pre-1950 work for pulp magazines or fanzines, and a lot of those RB frankly would rather not see republished. As biplane1 said, if an author tells you his child is ugly, that child is ugly.

Here's the list.
