Ray's short story "Juggernaut" appeared in a 2009 issue of the SATURDAY EVENING POST. (At one time, JUGGERNAUT was also the proposed title for a final short story collection from Ray. Sadly, that collection was never finished and published.) If anyone has not read "Juggernaut", the link below will take you to the story.

Just in time for Halloween, the current (Sept./Oct. 2025) issue of THE SATURDAY EVENING POST has a brief article called "Scare Masters" by Troy Brownfield. The article discusses great American authors who also wrote great horror fiction. However, the selected authors also needed to have had such a story published in THE SATURDAY EVENING POST (a magazine which has been around for a very long time...it was first published as a weekly newspaper on August 4, 1821). The article also had a brief discussion about the work of each writer and their POST appearances. The writers: Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, and a gentleman named Ray Bradbury. I think Ray would be pleased by the company he is in!

Some sad news showed up when I received my latest issue of THE SATURDAY EVENING POST in the mail. The POST has announced that it will be discontinuing its print version of the magazine after 205 (!) years, shifting to a digital-only format. The final print version of the magazine will be the January/February, 2027 issue. The POST cited rising production costs, declining advertising revenue, and shifting reader habits as the reasons. As noted in my posting which appears above, in its illustrious history, the POST has published stories by some of America's greatest authors, including Irving, Hawthorne, Poe and a fellow named Ray Bradbury ("The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms"; "The Magic White Suit" and "The Beggar on Dublin Bridge", to name only a few). My parents subscribed to the POST, and I have great memories of reading the magazine as a youngster. I myself have subscribed for many years. Truly a sad ending to a great era in American publishing.

Richard, You are so "right on" with your analysis of this sad day in turning the pages. These classic covers were such an entertaining joy as a kid! So many of them remain, even after years gone by, Still Memorable!!
