Religion 101 or How is the orange crop doing?
God is Love. The gates of Hell are locked from the inside!

Helps keep alive a lot of the old ones, especially narcissistic ones.

I'll give you an "Amen!", Friend Nard.

The Bible is made up of 66 (or 72) books, written over a period of about 1000 years, two to three thousand years ago. It is written by Middle Eastern people who have a Middle Eastern world view during the period of history from 1000 B.C.E. to 135 C.E. The books are written in Greek and Hebrew.

Not easy, indeed. But most worthwhile!

Naughty naughty... using the secular anti-Christian flavored designation of dating:
C.E. (Common era) instead of A.D. after death [of Christ]
and B.C.E. (Before Common Era) instead of B.C. [before Christ].

You know that's a special way of wiping away any religious significance to the dating.

Nard, it's worse than that.
"A.D" means "anno Domini" which means "The year of The Lord" !

Don't know about religion, but here's one regarding the weather. At the National Festival of the West, Ruth Buzzi was asking other celebrities if they had swimming pools, and commenting that pools froze during this recent cold snap!

Buzzi is a good word.

Not really. Jesus split the two eras in half! He is the beginning of the Common Era.

Okay. Then after every use of the term Common Era, don't forget to add this little item to every use:
""Jesus split the two eras in half. He is the beginning of the Common Era."" At least that'll explain to people how C.E. is being used.

They know - they're not stupid.

The presence of Jesus is strong in the world, even amongst those who don't know it yet.

Chapter 31
Is A.D. the year “zero” and is this actually 2006? But everyone has already discussed that, right?

Contrary to the Doug Spaulding explanation, C.E. and B.C.E. is NOT known by a great number of people. In fact, lots of people don't even know what A.D. means. They know B.C. is a name of a newspaper comic strip. Gee, just watch Jay Leno's Jaywalking segment. What Doug Spaulding wants us to believe is that C.E. and B.C.E. has nothing to do with watering down the meaning of B.C. and A.D. If not so, then what in the world is the meaning of replacing A.D. and B.C. with B.C.E. and C.E.?

Chapter 31: Is A.D. the year zero? No exactly. There is approx. a 6 yr. discrepancy. From what I understand of it, something to do with eliminating the memory of a disgraced king, and thus eliminating the years of his reign, in this case, something on the order of 6 yrs. There's more to it than that, but that in a nutshell.

It's a way of trying to not be exclusive to the Christian religion on the world stage. Remember, there are some Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, and Pagans out there, as well as multitudinous others.

Show all religions the respect they deserve, even if we do not cast our lot with them.

Nah Nah! Pray tell, then, who was it that decided that the world today needed a non-offensive dating system, incorporating the C.E. and B.C.E.? I understand the word was used centuries ago. But why the push so dramatically now? Also know anthropologists take fancy to it. Was it a commitee formed of a plurality of different religions? Or was it a sect of pagans for the abolishing of religious symbolism in the dating of years? Is this political correctness of our modern times?
