Thank you, Mr, Bradbury!!

This was one of many drawings Mr. B always sent our way. We shared it with Dr. Phil Nichols, and he posted it on his very fine RB site a few years ago.

I have found that Polish movie posters can be fascinating, given that they often illustrate the subject matter of a film in a unique and unusual way. And the Polish movie poster for the 1956 film MOBY DICK, for which Ray Bradbury wrote the screenplay, is no exception. The MOBY DICK poster which can be accessed by the link below was designed by the famed Polish illustrator Wiktor Gorka, who created a number of Polish film posters:

The publisher of SCARY MONSTERS magazine has revived the old Calvin Beck monster magazine, CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN, with issue #36 on sale now. Of interest to Ray Bradbury fans is an article on the various film versions of Melville's MOBY DICK called "The Hunt for Moby Dick", which of course includes a discussion of the 1956 John Huston film for which Ray wrote the screenplay. Among other things, the article notes that actor John Wayne was at one point considered for Ahab! The article also notes that there was, around the same time as the film, a stage version of which I was unaware: "Moby Dick Rehearsed". The play was written and staged by Orson Welles, who played Father Mapple in the Huston film. It ran in London for three weeks in 1955, and Christopher Lee played the tattooed Queequeg (there is a photo of Mr. Lee as that character illustrating the article.) The novel MOBY DICK continues to be a great source of inspiration for cartoonists, as today's BIZARRO comic strip demonstrates:
