A Sound of Thunder
Hi!
My name is Julia and Im a 12th grade student from Germany. Now, one year before my graduation, I have to write a term paper(at least 10 pages) about the short story "A Sound of Thunder". Can anybody tell me something about the story? Of course I also read up on that theme, but Im interested in your opinion!
Hope to read many responses soon!
Yours Julia

Mr. Dark
Hi welcome to the board, and welcome to Bradbury. It would help me respond if you could give us some of your preliminary thoughts.

What themes have you identified? How do they play out in the story? Have you done any supplemental reading on Chaos Theory? (Butterfly effect is discussed within that school of thought.) What scenes do you see as being critical? Do the characters play a "real" role, or are they merely placeholders for the plot?

First of all thanks for your reply!

What do you mean with butterfly effect? With Chaos Theory you mean the fact that the people in the story dont know about the consequences, if somebody changes the nature in the past?! (By the Chaos Theory it will change?! So the Short Story represent the Chaos Theory?)
The character "Deutscher" represents the national socialist regime in the second World War in Germany. Bt what about Keith? Does he just play the "counterpart" or is there somebody comparable in "real" history?

okay...now I read up on the Butterfly effect, it exactly describes the situation the the story. Little change, large effect. Thank u for that hint!
