Yes. Earth suffers from a nuclear war in The Martian Chronicles, reflecting the fact that the Soviet Union tested its first atomic weapon in the year before MC was published. And the suppression of literature and dissent that disturbed Bradbury when he wrote Fahrenheit 451 was most prominent in Communist nations in the early 1950s.

When I complete my Story Classifications thread https://raybradburyboard.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3791083901/m/8531075901/p/1 (which I WILL DO--although the original will have to be copied and pasted onto the end, as editing old posts is not allowed--) I should distinguish "end-of-the-world" stories, almost all of which are about nuclear war. "The Off Season" and "Embroidery" are two great examples. Perhaps the most disturbing is "The Garbage Collector."

Hey, while we're on the subject of Ray and nuclear war, supposedly there are pictures taken after the U. S. bombings of Japan in WWII showing the shadows of people who were vaporized, but their shapes were outlined in small unburned portions on the sides of charred buildings and so on. I have read descriptions of such pictures but never seen them. If such dramatic pictures exist, why are they not on the internet? If they are, where can they be found?

I searched google, I turned up this link, amongst others.

http://www.gensuikin.org/english/photo.html

it has one picture of a shadow, amongst other really disturbing photos of nuclear blast victims. This link is not for the squeamish.
