Homework Help
Hello All!
I recently studied Fahrenheit 451 in class and have a project to do. I am supposed to find 5 songs and compare the lyrics to the novel. I'm supposed to find the metaphors, similarities, etc etc. If anyone has any ideas of songs they would like to share, it would be very much appreciated. Smiler

A couple of songs come to mind:

The Beatles Nowhere Man

Supertramp's The Logical Song

How about Arthur Brown's "Fire" ?

Those are some good ones. I especially like The Logical Song, I'm surprised I didnt think of that. Thank you so much!

I was thinking of pre-awakened Montag and most of his society with the first one and Clarisse with the second.

"Flowers are Red" by Harry Chapin is an excellent example.

There is an album titled "Pleasure to Burn," but no idea of the contents. Anyone know, or know who used the slogan first, Ray Bradbury or Camel cigarettes?

A little vague, I suppose; but you could look at the lyrics of the Beatles's "Here Comes the Sun" and compare it to Montague's awakening.

Could also compare Three Dog Night's "Out in the Country" (a gorgeous song) to the uses of nature in F451.

"Whenever I feel them closing in on me
Or feel the need to get away,
I find a quiet place
far from the human race,
Out in the country...."

How about 2112 by Rush?

How about "Light My Fire" by the Doors? (talk about a metaphor).

Nonsense! Jose Feliciano's version is far superior.

"Burning Down the House"

Some real fun with irony and music here. Hey, Rocky, what do think!!!?? Catch the F451 parallels:

Watch out you might get what you're after
Cool babies strange but not a stranger
I'm an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight wait till the party's over
Hold tight We're in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Here's your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin' overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far, Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire

All wet hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hun-dred six-ty five de-grees

Burning down the house

It was once upon a place sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work baby what did you except
Gonna burst into flame

My house S'out of the ordinary
That's might Don't want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

No visible means of support and you have not seen nuthin' yet
Everything's stuck together
I don't know what you expect starring into the TV set
Fighting fire with fire (Talking Heads)

(These are not your parents' Rock n' Roll film clips!!)

...and then, Hendrix would have loved F451!!
"Wild Thing" is Clarisse!! Jimi is Montag!!
