OREGON CITY – The world premiere of a new dramatic version of Ray Bradbury’s “The Illustrated Man” will be in the Osterman Theatre at Clackamas Community College on Thursday, Sept. 27.

The one-man show featuring veteran Portland performer Tobias Andersen continues Thursdays through Sundays through Oct. 14.

Andersen, a long-time friend of the renowned science fiction writer, collaborated with Bradbury on the stage adaptation of his 1951 novel “The Illustrated Man.” Unlike the 1950s book, the play is a different collection of stories that explore a range of human imaginings that can be fantastic.

The stories are drawn from the living tattoos on the title character, “The Illustrated Man.” As in his original novel, Bradbury uses the Illustrated Man as a device to connect nine stories from the author’s vast works.

Andersen, a veteran actor of stage and screen and artistic director of the Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre Company in Gresham, Oregon, first met the author at an audition for a stage adaptation of his book “Fahrenheit 451” in 1977. The two have remained friends since then.

Andersen chose to perform with the Clackamas Repertory Theatre (CRT), which performs in the college’s new 222-seat theater. “He liked the small, intimate space of our Osterman Theatre,” said CRT managing director Cynthia Smith-English. “It’s a perfect venue for a one-man show.”

Following the premiere at Clackamas, Andersen will take the show to Los Angeles where it will open at the Rubicon Theatre the week of Oct. 15 as part of a citywide Bradbury festival.

Performances are scheduled at CCC’s Osterman Theatre Sept. 27 through Oct. 14, Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors 62 and older, and $10 for students. Reservations may be made by calling 503-657-6958, ext. 2356.

Thanks, Oregon Otis! I didn't know anything about this production until now. (Not that I can attend, you understand...)
