For the last few years I've re-read "Something This Way Comes" each October; trying to pace my reading so I end up finishing the last page on October 31st.

Last year I tried to divide the pages up equally between the 31 days of the month. But that ended up with too little to read each day.

And that reading schedule broke off each day's reading arbitrarily at the bottom of the specified pages, regardless of what was going on in the story. Not very satisfactory.

So this year I'll start reading on the 13th. And read a set of between 1 and 4 complete chapters on each day of the month.

In my old Bantam paperback that amounts to an average of ten or eleven pages a day.

I've tried to attach an MS Word doc file containing a table showing my proposed schedule for this year. But this web page won't accept .doc files.

So I'll try to convert it into text:

13-Oct Title Page,
Table of Contents,
Epigraphs,
Prologue,
Arrivals: 1,2,3,4
14-Oct 5, 6, 7, 8
15-Oct 9, 10, 11, 12
16-Oct 13, 14, 15
17-Oct 16, 17, 18
18-Oct 19, 20
19-Oct 21, 22, 23
20-Oct 24, Pursuits: 25
21-Oct 26, 27, 28
22-Oct 29, 30
23-Oct 31, 32, 33, 34
24-Oct 35
25-Oct 36, 37, 38
26-Oct (39)* 40, 41
27-Oct 42, 43, 44
Departures:
28-Oct 45, 46, 47
29-Oct 48, 49, 50
30-Oct 51, 52
31-Oct 53, 54

* I just skim through chapter 39 . For me all that long winded philosophizing by Charles Halloway breaks the haunting spell of the previous chapters and abruptly halts the relentless momentum of the narrative.

Anyone up for joining my in my annual ritual?

Hi Will, and welcome!

That sounds like a good plan. I was already intending to re-read SWTWC in October, so I might follow your schedule... although once I get drawn in, I am liable to read ahead.

Hi Phil!

Thanks for the friendly welcome!

I've got my reading schedule in an MS Word file formatted to print out on a 3x5 card that I use as a bookmark (orange card, of course Wink.

You might be able to download the file here:

I just tested that link, and it worked.

SWEEET!!! Something Wicked this way comes is a great book, that is one of my favorite Bradbury novels. They made a movie or a TV thing on the Bradbury theater didn't they?

Will keep an eye out of its a public reading across the internet.
