You're welcome. Supposedly the Castro quote is a joke but too good not to share.

dandelion, could we please let this thread die away? It's really got nothing at all to do with Ray Bradbury.

I know in the past we've had some very tangential threads, like the religion thread and the poetry thread. But those had almost nothing to do with Ray either, and I'm sure many frequenters of the board were glad to see them sink into obscurity.

An update on the Popular Vote, showing, if nothing else, a large number of people at least capable of distinguishing the lesser of two evils:

It's here as a public service to demonstrate that the entire country and world have not gone completely mad...yet! If it makes you feel better I can compile a list of Ray's stories about dystopic societies and responses to political despots. I can name half a dozen or so off the top of my head but a couple of titles I would have to look up.

If/when Trump is sworn in I will be glad to at least stop posting in the thread, as at that point many of us will be as good as dead anyway.

I found this an especially useful post so I replied "Thank you". Mr. Bradbury often spoke that some of the futures/stories he wrote were to prevent those futures from happening. Now we may have to face one .... I hate to think will be.

That's pretty well my line of thinking. Ray urged people to wake up and look at things for themselves through new eyes rather than believing what they were told by authority figures. Also I tell myself daily it is important to remember that the 1950s were not all Leave It To Beaver. It's people not understanding that which results in electing monsters like Trump to bring back "good old days" which never were--it's simply that the "complainers" were silenced--the same as in Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia! Ray survived McCarthyism in part by being able to keep writing and speak out and in part because he had developed the wonderful ability of freeing himself from captivity of other peoples' opinions at the age of nine. Others had to go into hiding, and some simply did not survive. There is one guy in particular whose face keeps haunting me, I need to try to look him up. Anyhow, this thread can serve as one of the little flickers of hope in this exceedingly dark time.

Time to drop the question mark and abandon all hope.

Whoever stepped on a butterfly sometime back when squashed that sucker good and left no hope of revival.

The system failed us, assisted by Russian hackers, fake news, and an idiocy epidemic in America of epic proportions. The Electoral College, meant to avert such disasters, failed us. Now, our last hope is for three spirits to visit the president-elect on Christmas Eve and Scrooge him good, or we all perish miserably!

As things stand, I can either spend $75.00 on Volume 2 of the Ray Bradbury definitive collection or on anti-Trump signs. Struggling to justify either and if so which. Decisions, decisions! (I could post pictures of the signs I want, which would cost nothing, but it's not the same as making a declarative outdoor statement.)

For Dr. Who fans--I was looking for a weeping angel to put up in memory of the good old U. S. A., and half the items I found were Dr. Who references. Right afterwards as it so occurred I was channel surfing and happened upon the last two "Weeping Angel" Dr. Who episodes so ended up watching the darn things! (Don't blink!)
