Wow, "The Pedestrian" and "Drunk, and in Charge of a Bicycle" in one fell swoop.

Anyone here follow the network TV series Resurrection, based on a book? http://abc.go.com/shows/resurrection/episode-guide Its debut drew a lot of flak due to an earlier French show with the same premise, and a Japanese show before that. People accused the book and series of being ripoffs, although they may have taken the premise in different directions than the French and Japanese sources.

Anyway, the premise closely resembles Ray's short story "The Reincarnate," whose first print appearance was, I think, in We'll Always Have Paris, but may have been written as long ago as the 1940s. Donn Albright certainly mentioned it to me over 30 years ago as an early unpublished precursor to "Pillar of Fire."

I haven't seen RESURRECTION, but I've seen the French series with the same premise (which I think was titled THE RETURNED when it was shown on UK TV).

Yes, same basic premise, but it's one of those common-coin concepts. I was reminded not of "The Reincarnate", but of the MARTIAN CHRONICLES chapter "The Martian" - which starts off with a deceased child magically reappearing (but then heads off in another direction when the child turns out to be a Martian shapeshifter (another common-coin concept)).

Good heavens! Someone has written a real-life version of Ray's story "The Utterly Perfect Murder" (which was ripped off on an episode of the TV series 21 Jump Street)! http://www.harpercollins.com/9...2269485/whipping-boy Sounds like a great book!

Yes, that does sound just like the Bradbury story. But Bradbury is a much more efficient writer - he gets to the absolute essence of it in about six pages. This book is probably 300 pages!

Ralph Underhill had stayed in the same town, so was easy to track. I wrote Ray about the 21 Jump Street ripoff and he didn't even bother answering--according to Donn Albright, apparently because it happened so often he came to ignore it!
