Regarding HOME TO STAY, this is a great idea to collect all of the Bradbury adaptations in a single volume; I wonder why it didn't happen years ago. I've read most of these but there are a few that I may have missed. My only minor complaint about the E.C. adaptations was restricting them to 6-8 pages per story. This forced them to cram so much text into some of the panels that it left little room for the artwork, but even with that limitation, these are some of the best comics adaptations of Ray's stories.

The following is from today's Gauntlet Press newsletter and its update on its forthcoming book, PHOENIX 451. The publisher, Barry Hoffman, also indicated that 147 copies of the signed 150-copy edition have been sold, so if you're on the fence on buying it, it would be best not to wait too long. And if you can afford it, Mr. Hoffman indicated that the lettered limited edition of 52 copies signed by both Ray and William Shatner will now have three additional, unpublished Bradbury short stories:

"We are close to completing layout of Ray Bradbury’s PHOENIX 451. Being that this will be our final signed limited edition of a Ray Bradbury book we are adding a host of bonus material.

"The bulk of the book, of course, are scripts Bradbury wrote based on his novel FAHRENHEIT 451. Unlike most authors, Bradbury often wrote more than one script based on a novel ... even one he didn’t pen. We previously published IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE with several different versions of a Bradbury script. He did the same for FAHRENHEIT 451.

"We’re including much more. Donn Albright has enough stories about his friendship with Bradbury to fill a book. In PHOENIX 451 he shares a number of anecdotes and they are accompanied by some of Ray’s famous doodles. Donn’s daughter (who edited the book) also took a large number of photos of Ray’s home and office. We decided to include a section of these pictures with others interspersed throughout the book. We also thought readers would be interested in Ray’s initial typed version of his acclaimed novel. Read it and compare it to what was published. Anyone who has had a book published by a mainstream publisher is aware there will be changes even if the author disagrees with those changes."

Like the old saying goes, "If you snooze, you lose." The following appeared in today's Gauntlet Press newsletter, which provided an update on its forthcoming book, PHOENIX 451:

"We have have sold out of the [150] numbered copies signed by Ray Bradbury with no additional copies going to dealers. We are creating a waiting list."

Some incredible news. Subterranean Press is issuing a second printing of its MARTIAN CHRONICLES: THE COMPLETE EDITION. For those who may have missed obtaining a copy of the first printing when it was published several years ago, this is the most complete collection of stories, screenplays, etc., about and relating to Ray's classic book. The second printing is limited to 750 copies. And 40 signed copies, using the remaining signature pages held by the publisher, will be sold at random (you cannot obtain a signed copy by asking for one.) There is a limit of one copy per household. The book will go on sale on Monday, June 11, 2022, at 12 noon Eastern Daylight Time. There is no working link yet on the Subterranean Press website, so be sure and check their website on Monday for ordering information. (https://subterraneanpress.com) In the meantime, here is what the Subterranean Press had to say about the book in its announcement of today:

"The second printing of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles: The Complete Edition will go on sale Monday, July 11, 2022 at 12:00 pm EDT.

Links for the book's product page will go live at that time.

Only part of the second printing will go on sale that day. A goodly number of copies had minor flaws (mainly the same page dog-eared in each copy) and have been sent back to the printer for rework. These extra copies will be released for sale at a later date.

Notes:

There is a limit of one copy per person/household.
We purchased the last of the signature pages Ray set pen to for the original proposed limited edition of The Martian Chronicles: The Complete Edition. Roughly forty signed copies will be distributed at random. (Please don't ask for a signed copy. It's a great way to make sure you don't receive one.)

We're reprinting one of our most requested titles. The Martian Chronicles: The Complete Edition wil be oversized, huge (at more than 750 pages), printed in black ink throughout, wtih a full color dust jacket and interior plates by Edward Miller.

In addition to the classic collection, the book contains an additional 23 short stories, as well as introductions and afterwords, listed below.

About the Book:

In the course of his long, illustrious career, Ray Bradbury has created some of the most memorable and enduring fiction of our time. While no one work can adequately represent the range and depth of his achievement, it may well be that The Martian Chronicles will come to stand as his most singular accomplishment. A visionary account of the first attempt to extend the human enterprise to another planet, this unique and resonant book is both a seminal work of science fiction and a permanent addition to modern popular culture.

The episodic saga begins during the “rocket summer” of 1999, when the first outbound ships depart for Mars, leaving the bleak Ohio winter behind. It ends, 27 years later, during a “million year picnic” which casts a harsh, reflective light on an entire civilization.

Along the way, Bradbury introduces a gallery of distinctive characters, all of whom have powerful reasons for seeking a newer life. Some are actively escaping--from racism, from political and cultural repression, from the never-ending prospect of war. Some are actively searching--for adventure, for uncharted horizons, for a sense of spiritual renewal. Together, they create a frontier society as complex, varied, and tragically flawed as the one they left behind.

The result is a work of philosophical humanism filled with memorable scenes and indelible images.

A wealthy settler builds a new “House of Usher” and wages bloody war against a dull and lifeless bureaucracy.
Translucent “fire balloons” offer intricate lessons in matters of the spirit.
A telepathic Martian helplessly absorbs the hopes, grief, and memories of the surrounding human populace.
A solitary survivor creates an automated family to help keep loneliness at bay.

Moments like these offer something deeper and grander than simple entertainment. As the author pointedly reminds us: “It is good to renew one’s wonder.” The Martian Chronicles accomplishes this task with wit, grace, and unselfconscious artistry. It will doubtless continue to do so for generations to come.

With more than 50 stories, essays, introductions and two full-length screenplays by Bradbury himself, The Martian Chronicles: the Complete Edition is a volume for the permanent shelf, one which chronicles the evolution of Bradbury’s Mars from the original classic volume and beyond.

The second edition will be limtied to 750 cloth bound hardcover copies.

This is an interesting reflection, early on, of Mr. Bradbury's insights and critical perspectives. In many ways, Mr. Bradbury was a social, scientific, literary, and political visionary. Consider of course: F451, Martian Chronicles, Golden Apples of the Sun, The Veldt, The Pedestrian, The Murderer, The Toynbee Convector, Sound of Thunder, Yestermorrow.....et al!

RB was in the Waukegan Lbrary almost daily as a young boy. He read every genre and the authors of the world from A to Z. He combined their philosophies, wrote his own tales, filed everything, observed the "dust on bees feet," worked from a basement desk, travelled the world, received the National Medal of Arts from the US President, and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Lifetime Wriitng. He was a mathmetician. He was a scientist. He was an astronaut. He was a young winemaker. He was a best friend to so many. He Is A Legend!

It all made sense to Mr. Bradbury, and he wrote of it for all to be informed, entertained, warned, and rewarded !~ as each page is turned.

"My favourite story has got to be "The Toynbee Convector." The tale is nothing less than a metaphor for Bradbury's life and his motivation as a writer."
~ Christos

I was curious and simply began to skim through historic posts by early and frequent visitors. Then, when I read this, I was intrigued by the parallels of Christos' precise statement to my above 7/7/22 view of Mr. Bradbury.

The views stated and shared, though more than 20yrs. apart, are quite ironic. A True "Bradbury Moment!"

Apparently, due to binding issues, an unspecified number of Subterranean Press's second printing of THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES: THE COMPLETE EDITION were returned to the book binders for re-binding. The available copies on hand, however, sold out almost immediately. If and when it is announced by the Press that the re-bound copies are available for sale, I will try to post the news (hopefully, before the remaining copies sell out). However, for those who are interested, I suggest checking the Press' website frequently for any news about the remaining copies of the book, and if and when they might become available for purchase.

The copies of the Subterranean Press second printing of THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES: THE COMPLETE EDITION that had binding issues that needed to be corrected appear now to be available. The book is listed on the Subterranean website for the original asking price of $200. Given the speed with which Subterranean's earlier stock sold out, if anyone is interested in buying this book, it would be best not to delay:
