What a shame, not very old, and his novels come up all the time--House of Stairs is continually asked for on forums I frequent for identifying books where title and author is not remembered.

I remember ordering House of Stairs from the scholastic book club in grade school. One of the few memorable novels.

Actor Cliff Robertson has passed away at age 88. While he had a long and distinguished career, he will probably best be remembered for his Oscar-winning performance in CHARLY, the 1968 film adaptation of Daniel Keyes' wonderful novel, FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON.

I taught Flowers for Algernon many times in Lit and SF classes. It is an eerie narration of things to come. Mr. Robertson captured the character of protagonist Charlie Gordon and made the movie a special learning experience for all who viewed his performance.
Peace!

A silent prayer for those who had their lives taken away, as well as for loved ones who still shed tears:

Sorry, but I couldn't listen to any of the coverage. Down enough as is without it.

I saw Dolores with Bob at Eglin AFB way back in the eighties. She sang a lovely version of Billy Joel's Just the Way You Are.

He was handpicked by President Kennedy to play him in PT 109, and a real Kennedy passes away right after a cinema one: http://www.usatoday.com/news/n...nedy-dead/50445272/1

Also, Walter Mondale's daughter died on the same day at the exact same age with a similar health history.

I met Kara Kennedy on two different occasions many years ago and she was a sweet girl.
