it's a benefit for Ventura Film Society, pre-release screening of the documentary. Q&A with the director, party afterward.

We had a lovely celebration of life yesterday - an Irish wake for Ray at his graveside. His actors were there and we had readings, stories and then lunch at a local Irish pub. See more on my Facepage.

Deanna Durbin was a favorite of Mr. Bradbury's in one of his wonderful Irish stories ("The Anthem Sprinters"). Here this song's simple lyrics are truly ironic and sung angelically: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofULnIeo3I8
------------------------- Goin' home, goin' home, I am goin' home, Quiet light, some still day, I am goin' home.
It ain't far, Jes' close by, Through an open door, Work all done, care laid by, Goin' t' fear no more.
Mother's there, 'spectin' me, Father's waitin' too, Lots o' folks gathered there, All the friends I knew.
Nothin's lost, all is gain, No more fret nor pain, No more stumblin' on the way, No more sweat n' strain.
Mornin' star lights the way, Restless dream all done, Shadows gone, break of day, Real life has begun.
There's no break, there's no end, Just a livin' on, Wide awake with a smile, Goin' on an' on.
Goin' home, goin' home, I am goin' home. Here am I, all alone, I am goin' home.
I am goin' home.

Here is what Greg Bear painted in honor of Ray in 1978:

The L.A. event dedicating Ray Bradbury Square has been postponed by the city. It was hoped to be October 31st, then moved to the 29th but not will not be held until November (date not set).

Mia Culpa: I forgot to mention about this earlier.
There are separate Forry and Ray Bradbury tributes on Friday, Steampunk and Blade Runner and Tim Powers events on Saturday, and on Sunday George Clayton Johnson discusses Icarus Montgolfier Wright (co-authored by Ray).

The title of the talk, "Cry the Cosmos", references an inspirational essay that Ray wrote for LIFE magazine in the early '60s.
