Hi all. As of today, I am part of a committee who needs to organize a Fahrenheit 451 Community Read in Janesville, Wisconsin. Please share with me ideas to engage students and the community, as well as any possible resources particularly in the area of guest speakers or panel participants. Thank you. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and brainstorming with all of you.

Hi Sara, and welcome.

I agree with dandelion, that your first port of call should be the web page for the NEA Big Read:

http://www.neabigread.org/books/fahrenheit451/media/

The video(s) of Ray Bradbury on the website, talking about his work, should be an invaluable resource.

If you are on Facebook, you might also want to "like" the page for the Center for Ray Bradbury Studies, which has links to some resources you may find useful:

Finally, it might be worth tracking down a book called A PLEASURE TO BURN, which includes a lot of Bradbury stories which were precursors to F451:

This site is so cool. Dandelion, as per your recommendation I checked The Big Read site. While I had heard of The Big Read, our school has not formally submitted an application. While I missed the January 28 deadline, it will be on my radar for the upcoming years. Thank you again.

Thanks Phil,
I checked out The Big Read, liked the page on Facebook, and have requested A Pleasure to Burn. I appreciate your ideas for this neophyte. Take care.
