And in that intellectual spirit, how about some old Kylie? Heh, heh... man, the video for this song certainly is airheaded, but kind of catchy none the less. But it makes me feel so darn old...

lucky

In my imagination
There is no complication
I dream about you all the time
In my mind a celebration
The sweetest of sensation
Thinking you could be mine

In my imagination
There is no hesitation
We walk together hand in hand
I'm dreaming
You fell in love with me
Like I'm in love with you
But dreaming's all I do
If only they'd come true

[CHORUS:]
I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love
I should be so lucky
Lucky lucky lucky
I should be so lucky in love

It's a crazy situation
You always keep me waiting
Because its only make believe
And I would come a-running
To give you all my loving
If one day you would notice me

My heart is close to breaking
And I can't go on faking
The fantasy that you'll be mine
I'm dreaming
That you're in love with me
Like I'm in love with you
But dreaming's all I do
If only they'd come true

[CHORUS:]

[BRIDGE:]
I should be so lucky (so lucky, so lucky)
I should be so lucky
I, I, (I, I)
I should be so lucky (so lucky, so lucky)
I should be so lucky
I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I

Intellectual? I don't know about all that, but Kylie look good to me.

I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I is a good word.

Somewhere Down the Crazy River

Yea, I can see it now
The distant red neon shivered in the heat
I was feeling like a stranger in a strange land
You know where people play games with the night
God, it was too hot to sleep
I followed the sound of a jukebox coming from a levee
All of a sudden I could hear somebody whistling
From right behind me
I turned around and she said
"Why do you always end up down at Nick's Cafe?"
I said "I don't know, the wind just kind of pushed me this way."
She said "Hang the rich."

Catch the blue train
To places never been before
Look for me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river
Catch the blue train
All the way to Kokomo
You can find me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river

Take a picture of this
The fields are empty, abandoned '59 Chevy
Laying in the back seat listening to Little Willie John
Yea, that's when time stood still
You know, I think I'm gonna go down to Madam X
And let her read my mind
She said "That Voodoo stuff don't do nothing for me."

I'm a man with a clear destination
I'm a man with a broad imagination
You fog the mind, you stir the soul
I can't find, ... no control

Catch the blue train
To places never been before
Look for me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river
Catch the blue train
All the way to Kokomo
You can find me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river

Wait, did you hear that
Oh this is sure stirring up some ghosts for me
She said "There's one thing you've got to learn
Is not to be afraid of it."
I said "No, I like it, I like it, it's good."
She said "You like it now
But you'll learn to love it later."

I been spellbound - falling in trances
I been spellbound - falling in trances
You give me shivers - chills and fever
I been spellbound - somewhere down the crazy river

- Robbie Robertson

(I mean, the great Robbie Robertson)

I wish I had a few of those "Blues" now in my painful old age, to take me to other places, other faces, and altered states of my mind. I just love Robbie Robertson and The Band. BTY, Levon Helms is still around and going strong on his own, and they do not like each other much these days.

What do you notice about these classic lyrics?

Pennies in a stream,
Falling leaves, a sycamore..
Moonlight in Vermont.

Icy finger waves,
Ski trails down a mountain side
Snowlight in Vermont.

Telegraph cables, that sing down the highway
And travel each bend in the road,
People who meet in this romantic setting
Are so hypnotized by the lovely

Evening summer breeze,
Warbling of a meadowlark,
Moonlight in Vermont,

You and I and moonlight in Vermont.

Thirty-two years ago, this.

Now when was the last time Robbie, Bobby and Van the Man sang as one into the same microphone?

And not a bad group of friends (oh no - he's going to list them all!):
* Paul Butterfield
* Eric Clapton
* Neil Diamond
* Dr John
* Bob Dylan
* Emmylou Harris
* Ronnie Hawkins
* Joni Mitchell
* Van Morrison
* The Staple Singers
* Ringo Starr
* Muddy Waters
* Ronnie Wood
* Neil Young

Happy Thanksgiving from The Band!

I watch the DVD of The Last Waltz as often as I can. I cannot get enough. No electical rhythms, just people playing electic instruments, with the greatest of talent ever assembled on one stage.

You got that right - it's the best filmed concert ever!

How do you like that part during Further On Up the Road when Robbie's schoolin' Clapton on the electric guitar? Clapton knows it - that's why the big, silly "I give up" grin on his face.

Besides being a great tune, "Moonlight In Vermont" has this peculiarity: the lyrics don't rhyme.
And there's something else about the lyrics that I hope some of you who enjoy poetry will perceive...

What really happened is that the strap came loose from Eric Clapton's guitar, and he nearly lost the instrument, while Robbie took over to allow him time to repair the connection of the strap to his guitar. It was a moment of true comraderie.

Yeah - it's a great scene. He took over and did him one better. EC knows.

Men Are So Easy

Didn't I tell you
Don't you remember
Said it so clearly
Couldn't you hear me
I wasn't pretending
I said that I love you
As plain as I can do
Why complicate it?
Why go and make it so hard?
Men are so easy
Laugh if you want to
Once they decifer
They take you for life and
It's worth hanging on to
They tell you they love you
In ways that they can do
Men are so easy
Why does it need to be hard?

A boy becomes a man
And in the time he learns to stand
He finds a way to build a wall
To hide behind if he should fall
He grows to be a man
And show the world that he can stand
Not knowing fear
Or even pain while
Underneath when you look deep
A boy remains
Yes, men are so easy
Just lift up the covers
Cause that's where they hide and
That's where you find them
They are yours to discover
You learn how to read them
And show how you need them
Yes, men are so easy
Just love them and let them be free
It's not complicated
Men are so easy
Like me...

- Neil Diamond

I've never heard this put down in a song before. If only women really understood men (and the other way round).

Brilliant!

Moolight - is that what shines on bovine at night? Smiler

Sounds a little like haiku, doesn't it?

It's also a kigo.
