Radio Version of "The Crowd" on SUSPENSE
The link below will take you to a radio adaptation of the Ray Bradbury short story, "The Crowd", as it aired on the series SUSPENSE in September, 1950. It stars Dana Andrews. Unfortunately, the script writers dramatically altered Ray's short story, turning that fine horror tale into a routine murder mystery. Listening to the show caused me to check the introduction, "Suspense Remembered", that Ray wrote for a 1997 book called SUSPENSE 1942-1962, which lists every show the radio series aired, including performance dates, stars and writers. As Ray noted, in part, in his introduction: "So, in sum, I did not keep artistic control over the scripts which were, more often than not, written by other radio script writers." That's especially true with "The Crowd", which could have been so much better if they had stuck with Ray's story!
