Mid-Century Horror, A Reading List
The link below will take you to the SUBLIME HORROR website, and an interesting article called, "Mid-Century Horror, A Reading List". Of the six selections, I question whether the books by Ralph Ellison and Patricia Highsmith are appropriate for such a list, and would have much preferred the inclusion and discussion of works by the two runners-up, Robert Aickman and Charles Beaumont. However, I can't argue with the inclusion of a Richard Matheson collection, Shirley Jackson's WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE (a truly creepy book), and Ray Bradbury's OCTOBER COUNTRY (although I might have opted for Ray's SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES instead).
